Summary of Duties

The Accountant’s primary responsibility is for MBG’s billing system which will involve communicating and collaborating with other internal departments and outside vendors to ensure MBG’s billing system is providing our customers with relevant and accurate payment options.  The Accountant will also be responsible for ensuring all billing related transactions are properly reflected in the financial statements.  In addition, the Accountant will be responsible for other specific duties associated with the financial statements and reports.

The accountant I will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the accounting function.  Other specific duties will include completing assigned parts of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports; completing varied financial responsibilities for Mutual Benefit Group companies; and performing other miscellaneous duties as assigned or directed. 

The accountant II will prepare, ensure accuracy of, and file assigned portions of financial statements and reports.  This position should possess a solid understanding of most areas to complete financial statements and demonstrates a basic understanding of complex areas such as reinsurance, loss reserving, investments, pension, and deferred and federal tax accounting. 

The accountant III will prepare, ensure accuracy of, and file financial statements, reports and other filings with regulatory and quasi-regulatory agencies. This position should possess a solid understanding to complete all areas of the financial statements and demonstrates a deep understanding of complex insurance accounting topics, such as reinsurance, loss reserving, investments, pension, and deferred and federal tax accounting.

Necessary Qualifications

Applicants for the Accountant I, II, or III position should be able to successfully collaborate with others to jointly develop recommendations and possess proficient internal relations, communication, and teamwork skills; minimum of one-year experience in related position(s); a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education; CPA certification preferred or pursuing.

Applicants for Accountant I must possess basic knowledge of insurance and accounting; proficient interpersonal relations, communications and teamwork skills; proficient analytical and problem-solving skills; proficient computer skills; demonstrated time management, project management, and organizational skills; minimum of one-year experience in related position(s); a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education and experience combination; CPA certification preferred or pursuing.

Applicants for Accountant II must possess proficiency in producing, interpreting, analyzing, and reporting financial information; proficient interpersonal relations, communications and teamwork skills; proficient analytical and problem solving skills; proficient computer skills with knowledge of various computer software packages related to the production and reporting of financial data; demonstrated time management, project management, and organizational skills; minimum of three years’ experience in related position(s); a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent knowledge and direct experience in the field; CPA certification preferred.

Applicants for Accountant III must possess proficiency in producing, interpreting, analyzing, and reporting financial information; proficient interpersonal relations, communications and teamwork skills; proficient analytical and problem solving skills; proficient computer skills with knowledge of various computer software packages related to the production and reporting of financial data; demonstrated time management, project management, and organizational skills; minimum of ten years’ experience in related position(s); a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent knowledge and direct experience in the field; CPA certification preferred.
