Patterson Retires With Impressive 39-Year Career

Donna Patterson retired January 15, 2016, after 39 years of employment with Mutual Benefit Group (MBG).

Patterson began her insurance career in 1973 as an underwriter for Millers Mutual Insurance Company of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She then joined MBG in 1977 as a personal lines underwriter and remained in that position for nine years before transferring to the Commercial Lines Department. In 1986, Patterson was named director of research and development, serving in that role for one year before advancing again to commercial property underwriting supervisor in 1987. Patterson was named home office underwriting manager in 1990 and served in that capacity until 1996 when she was promoted to personal lines director. In 1998 she was named vice president of personal lines, charged with ensuring top performance of the personal lines strategic business unit.

During her career, Patterson has pursued numerous technical courses and industry-related continuing education. She holds the designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW), and the Certificate in General Insurance from The Institutes®. Patterson holds a property casualty license and, of particular note, received the CPCU – Harry J. Lohman Award for Academic Excellence from the American Institutes for achieving one of the top five grade averages in attaining the CPCU designation.
