Commercial Lines Underwriter

JOB SUMMARY
The underwriter, under general supervision, is responsible for the profitability, growth and retention of a book of business within a designated territory working independently within an assigned authority level. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
SPECIFIC Duties include:
- Gathering, analyzing, and evaluating risk exposure through appropriate documentation
- Applying knowledge and understanding of coverage forms, rating plans and adequate pricing through proper classification, accuracy of information and adherence to company underwriting standards
- Conducting continuous profit and growth analysis of assigned territory and agencies
- Proactively seeking to retain key renewals by working closely with agents and internal business partners
- Providing internal and external customer service
- Partnering with Marketing to create a business plan for assigned territory with an emphasis on agency planning, strong renewal retention and a profitable new business pipeline
- Performing miscellaneous duties as assigned or directed
CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:
Education Requirements:
- Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
Skills / Competencies:
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills (both written and verbal)
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
- Essential knowledge of the commercial lines underwriting function
- Strong customer service orientation
- Moderate computer knowledge and math skills
- Minimum of four years' experience in related position
- Highly motivated and results-oriented
- Industry designation of AINS, AU, or CPCU, preferred
