Data Engineer

research-analyst

At MBG, we rely on powerfully insightful data to inform our systems and solutions, and we’re seeking an experienced Data Engineer to put it to good use. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with creativity and curiosity—someone who is excited to solve business problems with data, write exceptional code, and build modern pipelines using the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.

This is a hands-on role that works across insurance analytics, actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, marketing, operations, and IT to design and maintain scalable data infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in modernizing our data environment, developing reusable data models that drive decision-making, and empowering self-service analytics throughout the insurance enterprise. We're looking for someone who can jump in, own challenges, and help us unlock the full potential of our data.

We are hiring at multiple levels (junior to senior), so whether you're launching your career or ready to shape strategy, we want to hear from you.

Objectives of This Role

  • Design clean, reusable data pipelines and transformation processes that support operational reporting and enable advanced analytics
  • Build a unified, governed data architecture using Microsoft Fabric and OneLake as a single source of truth
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to create trusted semantic models that enable actionable insights and faster decision-making
  • Accelerate time-to-insight by optimizing self-service analytics and streamlining data access for business users
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical partners across the organization
  • Promote best practices in data governance, quality, consistency, security, and responsible data use
  • Contribute to the enterprise data modernization strategy using Microsoft technologies

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities (All Levels)

  • Ingest and transform data from policy admin systems, claims platforms, CRMs, and external sources into OneLake
  • Build and maintain Lakehouses and Warehouses for centralized, scalable data storage and access
  • Develop well-modeled, governed semantic models for use in Power BI and enterprise reporting
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, underwriting, and finance teams to translate business needs into reliable data solutions

Mid-Level

  • Lead solution design for Lakehouse architecture and Microsoft Fabric workspace strategies
  • Optimize data processing performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability across Fabric and Azure services
  • Mentor junior engineers and help define team-wide standards and best practices
  • Implement DevOps pipelines using Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD for data workflows
  • Support enterprise data governance using tools like Microsoft Purview
  • Evaluate and drive adoption of new Microsoft Fabric capabilities across the business

Senior-Level

  • Define and lead the roadmap for modern, cloud-native data architecture within Microsoft Fabric
  • Serve as a strategic partner to business and IT leaders to identify and deliver high-impact data initiatives
  • Represent the data engineering function in enterprise data strategy, audit, and compliance conversations

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Familiarity with insurance data domains (e.g., policy, claims, premium, rating, risk segmentation)
  • Proficient in SQL and data modeling techniques
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, and Power BI
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data concepts into business value
  • Proven problem-solving skills with a strong focus on data accuracy, reliability, and performance
  • Experience working in cross-functional, fast-paced environments with shifting priorities
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices using Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate) are a plus
