Director of Agency Development
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Agency Development is MBG’s primary field-facing leader for profitable distribution growth. This role focuses on developing new business, setting and executing agency premium plans, and conducting agency audits to drive consistent underwriting discipline and operational quality. Agency Development also owns agency appointment and termination governance.
In MBG’s distribution model, PL and CL Underwriters are the primary owners of ongoing agency relationship management related to underwriting quality, appetite adherence, and portfolio performance. Agency Development partners closely with assigned underwriters and Sales Operations to ensure clear execution, strong agency engagement, and alignment to MBG’s growth and profitability objectives.
key responsibilities include:
- Drive profitable new business growth through agency engagement.
- Execute MBG growth initiatives and campaigns in partnership with underwriting.
- Develop annual and quarterly agency premium plans, monitor progress and drive corrective actions.
- Partner with underwriters to ensure premium plan goals align with risk appetite and quality standards.
- Conduct agency audits (process, compliance, underwriting discipline, documentation integrity, operational controls), ensure corrective actions are completed, and maintain documentation.
- Own agency appointments and termination governance.
- Manage onboarding expectations for newly appointed agencies (in coordination with Marketing enablement and Underwriting standards).
- Coordinate with Marketing to deploy field campaigns, agency communications, event support, and producer tools.
- Escalate relationship risks or systemic barriers through appropriate leadership channels.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned or directed.
CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:
- Insurance carrier, MGA, or agency experience in distribution/territory management, sales leadership, or agency management.
- Working knowledge of both Personal Lines and Commercial Lines products and underwriting fundamentals.
- Proven ability to influence and drive results without direct authority.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient with reporting tools and data (Excel and CRM/agency management tools preferred).
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel regularly within territory.
- Experience with agency audits, compliance reviews, or governance program, preferred.
- CPCU, CIC, or similar designation, preferred.
