Controller

The Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting and analysis, and regulatory compliance functions for a growing Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance company currently writing business in two states and preparing for expansion into additional states. This role is ideal for a results-driven accounting leader who maintains strong financial controls, ensures compliance across multiple states and contributes strategically to scaling the company’s financial infrastructure.

The Controller will manage day-to-day accounting operations, produce accurate and timely Statutory (SAP) financial statements, and work closely with cross-functional leadership.

key responsibilities include:
  • Oversee key aspects of the accounting function, such as general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Oversee preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual Statutory (SAP) financial statements
  • Ensure timely filing of all regulatory reports (e.g. NAIC, state insurance departments, and other statutory filings)
  • Collaborate with the CFO and Company leadership on strategy and departmental goals
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
  • Monitor changes in insurance, tax, and statutory accounting standards
  • Works with Company’s external auditors and actuary
  • Forward thinking analysis and special projects
  • Support the CFO and Legal/Compliance teams in strategic areas, such as new state licensing, corporate structure, and statutory reporting, as needed
minimum job requirements:
Candidates must possess:
  • 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience in P&C insurance
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting (SAP) and insurance financial operations.
  • Deep understanding and experience in reinsurance, loss reserving, investment, pension, and tax accounting.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or optimizing Accounting, Reinsurance and/or Billing systems a plus
