Daniel C. Pickens
Daniel Pickens has served on the Board of Directors of Mutual Benefit Insurance Company since 2024, bringing over 35 years of actuarial experience to the Board. His expertise includes property and casualty (P&C) product pricing and reserving, competitive intelligence, statistical modeling, product development/management and reinsurance structure.
Dan started DNJ Ventures, LLC in 2017, providing clients with actuarial and management consulting services. In this role Dan has worked with P&C insurance companies, vehicle service contract providers, and third-party vehicle history data providers. Prior to forming DNJ Ventures, Dan served as the Chief Actuary for USAA (2010 to 2017) where he was responsible for pricing USAA’s $17B+ personal lines portfolio. His other responsibilities included competitive intelligence, ceded reinsurance and product modeling.
Prior to USAA, Dan served as the Personal Lines Director at Aviva Insurance Group (2008 to 2010) in Norwich, United Kingdom, where he had P&L accountability for a £3.5 billion personal lines portfolio. Before Aviva, Dan served as Vice President and Chief Actuary of GMAC Insurance - Personal Lines (1997 to 2008) where he led the actuarial, product management, and product development teams. Dan also held various actuarial positions at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio (1989 to 1997).
Dan graduated with high honors from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Statistics Concentration) and has completed the General Manager Program at Harvard Business School. Dan is also a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Dan also served eight years in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a member of Convoy Commodore and Naval Control of Shipping units. Dan has three children and six grandchildren and is married to Jacqueline Pickens.
