Vaughn named Chief Human Resources Officer

Frances “Fran” Vaughn of Huntingdon has been named Chief Human Resources Officer for Mutual Benefit Group (MBG).

“This promotion represents the expanded scope of Fran’s accountabilities within the leadership team of MBG,” says Steve Sliver, MBG President and CEO. “She has enhanced our recruiting capabilities, and that has led to significantly improving our recruitment success around key positions. She also oversees our facilities and their effective management and maintenance. Within that accountability is included the effective creation and implementation of our ‘Workplace of the Future’ project. Given that our MBG team is the critical component of our success, Fran’s steady improvement in our HR scope and delivery has been vital to our collective MBG success.”

Appointed Vice President – Human Resources for MBG in 2007, Vaughn is a graduate of Penn State with an associate degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in general arts and sciences. She completed her master’s degree in industrial relations/human resources at Saint Francis University.

Prior to joining MBG, Vaughn was employed for 28 years with Mead/Westvaco, now ACCO Brands. During her career there, she advanced through various positions with increasing leadership responsibilities. She was subsequently promoted to materials manager, the role she held until accepting her position with MBG. She also taught continuing education courses in human resources and management at Penn State.

Vaughn is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute; as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for Human Resource Management; and as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

She also holds the professional insurance designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

During her tenure at Mutual Benefit, the Company has been named one of The Best Places to Work in PA eight times. In recognition of her contributions to mentoring women in the workplace, Vaughn has been presented with the prestigious ATHENA Award by the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce and listed among the Women Making A Difference in Central Pennsylvania in 2017 by Pennsylvania Business Central. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Penn Highlands Healthcare – Huntingdon; for three years, she chaired the same hospital’s Board of Directors when it was known as J.C. Blair Memorial Health System, Huntingdon. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Kish Bank and belongs to the Human Resources Association of Centre County (HRACC).

An avid runner, Vaughn enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband Kurt, her two children and their spouses and her seven grandchildren.
