Commercial Lines General Manager

JOB SUMMARY

​​The Commercial Lines General Manager provides overall management of the commercial lines underwriting function, including supervision of assigned staff and attainment of goals.  This position will lead the development and profit and loss management of commercial lines products, features, pricing, reinsurance, compliance, and marketing plans.  

SPECIFIC Duties include:
  • Proven ability of managing and developing new Commercial Lines rating plans, underwriting rules, process improvements, etc.
  • Supervise underwriting and rating teams; coach, mentor, train, and develop team members; guide and serve as expert resource to subordinates applying predictive modeling and other quantitative concepts to product management and development.
  • Interface with other departments to address product related issues including reviewing documentation, interpreting rules, and coordinating and monitoring activities involving marketing, customer service, underwriting, finance, and information technology.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to develop insights to develop and complete multi-year product strategy. Engage with external regulators to bring strategic actions to market.
  • Build reports using data tools to supervise business performance and communicate results.
  • Identify emerging themes, internal and external trends to improve performance and minimize risk.
  • Assist with the evaluation of product performance metrics and competitor actions to help facilitate decision making.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are optimally identified, measured, supervised, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Identify, investigate, monitor, and provide solutions for Treaty and Facultative Reinsurance placement.
CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent education and experience combination.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years' experience in related position(s).
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, preferred.
  • Expertise in product, price, underwriting and insurance regulation knowledge, with working knowledge of Commercial Lines' rate plans and product offerings.
  • An advanced knowledge about business in general and multi-dimensional knowledge of industry and company economics.
  • Lead and collaborate across boundaries to implement decisions and/or initiatives in an integrated manner.
  • Ability to develop and/or revise business tactics to support changing business strategies and direction.
  • Strong people and thought leadership.
  • Ability to consistently achieve superior results.
  • Ability to measure, evaluate, and act on results (financial and operational).
  • Ability to demonstrate and foster a sense of urgency, strong commitment and accountability for achieving results.
  • Previous managerial experience.
