Workers Compensation Claims Director
JOB SUMMARY
Our leading property & casualty insurance company is seeking an experienced Workers Compensation Claims Director to join our Claims Department at our corporate office in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. This onsite position will play a vital role in supervising the workers compensation staff, ensuring accurate and timely reserving, and providing expert legal guidance on workers compensation matters for claims handled in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The attorney will report directly to the Chief Claims Officer.
key responsibilities include:
- Supervise and provide leadership to the workers compensation staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Oversee and ensure that reserving practices are completed accurately and in a timely manner for all workers compensation claims, 1st party medical claims.
- Provide legal expertise in the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of workers compensation and 1st party medical claims in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
- Support company and department strategic goals via enhancements, efficiency initiatives, and compliance adherence.
- Respond to subpoenas received by the claim department.
- Vendor management to include auditing and reporting on contracted services. Vendor examples: bill repricing and Medicare compliance,
- Advise claims professionals on litigation strategy, claim handling, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations (ie PCRB, DCRB, WCAIS, CompHub etc.)
- Stay current with developments in workers compensation and 1st party medical law and regulations in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
- Assist in the development and implementation of best practices and procedures for the Claims Department.
- Work closely with the Chief Claims Officer and other department leaders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in Pennsylvania and/or Maryland.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in workers compensation litigation, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of workers compensation laws and procedures in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
- Broad knowledge of tort law is a plus.
- Proven experience supervising legal or claims staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation and provide strategic legal counsel.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite at the corporate office in Huntingdon, PA.
